Skyway temporary shop

Mont Blanc

designing a transformable, modular temporary shop for 100 different product categories, multi-target, at 2,800 metres of altitude, then relocatable to a shopping centre. After that, everything else is easy.

A modular temporary at 2,173 metres on Mont Blanc for Skyway

Distilling the Mountain, even for those who look at it from a shopping centre. The Skyway temporary shop was born from a clear brief: a versatile, modular structure able to be installed at 2,173 metres of altitude in the Pavillon intermediate station and then relocated to shopping centres, squares or other locations. The structure is in glulam timber, with alternating, opposing modules that build the profile of the display space; the walls are made of climbing rope, a direct reference to the world of mountaineering. The inclined-shelf bookcases hold objects of various shapes and types.

A temporary shop a step from the sky. The brief was clear: to design a versatile, modular temporary shop that could be installed at the centre of the Pavillon intermediate station at 2,173 metres of altitude and then relocated within shopping centres, squares or other locations. The Pavillon intermediate station is the same one where, outside, 23bassi handled the Skygarden terrace project for Red Bull.

The structure and materials. The idea is based on a modular structure, alternating in form, that could be expanded according to space needs. The structure is made of glulam timber and, by placing opposing modules together, builds the profile of the display space. The structure’s ‘walls’ are made of climbing rope, an element referencing the world of mountaineering.

The display. The wall facing the till structure is made of a system of inclined-shelf bookcases to arrange objects of various shapes, sizes and types, while the ‘window’ areas feature transparent totems to display the products.

Changing its skin. In its original version, inside the Pavillon station on Mont Blanc, the temporary was made of wood with a natural finish left exposed. In the second assembly, a pop-up shop inside the Arese shopping centre, it was repainted white to make it instantly recognisable and consistent with the Skyway Mont Blanc image, and reassembled in a ‘shortened’ version with fewer modules so it could work as a product desk. It was placed within a vinyl-wrapped area, with themed graphics added and other elements introduced, such as a virtual binocular reproducing the landscape from the summit of Mont Blanc.
