The Art of Creating and Designing
In this section you’ll find all those projects that have a broader scope than others—a larger scale requiring coordinated efforts, multidisciplinary expertise, and a development process with a different degree of complexity. We’ve borrowed the etymology of the word “Architecture” from Wikipedia: “Architecture” derives from architect, a term that comes from the Latin architectus, but has Greek origins—a compound word made up of the terms árche and técton, meaning “engineer,” “master craftsman,” or “architect.” The first term expresses in ancient Greek the meaning of “undertaking,” “departure,” “origin,” “foundation,” or “guidance.” The second term, técton, carries multiple meanings, including “to invent,” “to create,” “to shape,” or “to build”: technical craftsmanship but also art, manual work but also artisanry. The union of these two terms appears for the first time in Herodotus’s Histories and denotes someone who provides rational order to construction.
Every house we design represents its inhabitants
In our architectural projects, even as dimensions grow, attention never diminishes: we care for every aspect down to the smallest detail, through integrated design that understands the client’s needs. A building is not an island: it’s a mark on the landscape, it must not only be beautiful but in harmony with its context, in dialogue with it to tell something of the client. In Casarchè and in the welcoming families housing project, we carried forward the design process step by step together with the clients: colors breathed new life into a gray building, colors that echoed the Foundation’s own identity, while for the family housing we started from the very idea that children have of home and how it should be for them. Great projects bring great responsibilities (as Spider-Man would say): when we design, we commit ourselves to protecting what surrounds us, paying attention to the environmental and social sustainability of our interventions.
