An old Milanese three-room flat rethought like a mini hotel suite: a landing place for limited stays, where everything is hidden and revealed only when needed. Casa Novanta10 takes Steve Jobs’ lesson — ‘simplicity is the ultimate sophistication’ — and translates it into a double living room divided by an ethereal crystal table, a kitchen that is first of all a console in matt-black laminate, and an entrance where magnetic doors in RAL 9010 hide all the accesses. The light grooves run through the home like a subtle signature, all the way to the bathroom-suite with freestanding bath and bespoke curtains.

Spaces. The client’s need was to rethink an old Milanese three-room flat from a completely different perspective: the home is a landing place, a mini suite for a limited stay. The living-room space was in fact occupied by two rooms, while the kitchen was a service space between a little study and the bathroom, much narrower. The living room thus becomes double, essentially divided into two areas by an ethereal crystal table. One zone is dedicated exclusively to relaxation, with a composition of blue-velvet sofas, while the other side of the living room is characterised by the kitchen.
The kitchen. The kitchen is not a normal kitchen. First of all it is a living-room console, made of matt-black anti-fingerprint laminate. But when needed it has everything required to cook. Everything is hidden, everything is designed not to be seen normally but to be used. Inside the kitchen-console are a washbasin, an induction hob, the dishwasher, the oven, the fridge and the freezer, as well as drawers and doors for pans. The oven too is hidden by a door.
The entrance. The entrance follows the same principle as the kitchen. At first glance everything is hidden, both the doors giving access to the rooms and the wardrobes, but opening the doors reveals all the spaces, both the service ones and the accesses to the home’s rooms. It is all emphasised by light. A light groove marks the bespoke furnishing and lights the room. The doors are magnetic and the finish is in matt-lacquered MDF, RAL 9010.
The light. The light-groove system also serves the indirect lighting of the bedroom, emphasised too by the display niche lit vertically. In the bathroom as well, the false-ceiling system allows the walls to be lit via grooves.
The bathroom. The bathroom is conceived like the bathroom of a hotel suite. Two frosted-glass walls hide the sanitaryware from view, while in the bath and washbasin zone the walls are clad in marble tiles, while the floor is made with a particular marble-wood stoneware decoration. The 30×120 tiles are laid to create a niche, handy for service products, near the bath-shower. The freestanding bath, conceived also to be used as a shower, is enhanced by a curtain that runs in a recessed track made on a template of the bath’s shape. The furnishing integrates the wall niches, aligning the elements with the mirror.
