A large home in central Milan, bespoke-designed, with strong character

A home more rock and roll than this was hard to make

Back in black – If you like classic homes this one isn’t for you

The home favours spatial continuity, avoiding rigid compartmentalisation and defining functions through materials, light and mobile dividing systems, for a balance between freedom and identity of the rooms.

A rock'n'roll home in central Milan: Casa Back in Black

A large home in central Milan, more rock’n’roll than ever. Casa Back in Black is not for those who love the classic: a first-patina oak floor (antique recovered wood left to age in the open air, where each board changes colour), volumes that break up into three-dimensional surfaces, a bathroom with a triple shower, mini pool and stone-totem washbasins. The living area breathes without being segmented: entrance, relaxation with hi-fi audio, TV zone, bench with fireplace, dining room and study become connected or separate thanks to adjustable-louvre diaphragms made bespoke by the carpenter.

Geometries. Bold and sharp, to give the rooms a clear, recognisable identity; the volumes are enriched by the movement of the materials, the surfaces break up and become three-dimensional.

On the ground. The floor is in first-patina oak, that is antique wood recovered and left to age in the open air to get this special colouring that changes a great deal from board to board.

Lights. They are very important; alongside structural and architectural lights, decorative lights of great effect and drama were added.

Bathrooms. There are 4 bathrooms, each with a strong personality. Above all stands the bathroom, a real room within which a triple shower, a mini pool, the zone with two stone-totem washbasins and the WC zone separated by a door find their place.

The home is very large and the choice was made not to segment it into many rooms but to let it breathe, while defining each zone with a different function, especially in the living area.

The entrance with the large cloakroom, the relaxation and reading zone with the speakers for listening to high-definition music, the television zone, the bench with the fireplace, the dining room and the study: if desired, through mobile, transformable elements, they can all be visually connected and, when needed, screened to make them more defined.

The use of adjustable-louvre diaphragms, made bespoke by the carpenter, made it possible to create spaces that can be changed over time or several times in the same day.
